Cape Town

Cape Town!!!

I hope you’ve all had an incredible start to the New Year and had a chance to have lots of fun and some rest over the festive period. Who has kept to their New Years resolutions? I have stuck to my Dry January resolution - so far!!

On Christmas Day night we flew out to the magical city of Cape Town. Those of you who have been will know what I mean by magical. It is home to Table Mountain, beautiful beaches, amazing vineyards, incredible restaurants and in my view mother nature surpassed herself when creating this vibrant city.

We stopped counting how many times we said “look at that view!” - stunning, stunning, stunning coastline! The coastal drive to Cape Point is breathtaking.

Right now the ‘£’ is very strong and as a result South Africa is incredible value for money. My average shop was £40 and dinner for 5 was around £40.

A few tips for those who haven’t been. Let’s start with the most important - FOOD!!

Harbour House - Kalk Bay

Stunning view, delicious food and great service - Book WELL in advance...

Pot Luck Club & Gallery

A real treat!! The menu consists of a multitude of ‘small plates’ of modern global dishes. There is also a dedicated cocktail bar and an accompanying list of boutique wines to complement the varied edible creations on the menu. Diners can expect a mix of both fusion and classically influenced dishes on the menu, from the likes of Luke’s signature Asian-influenced pork belly served with XO dressing, red cabbage and apple slaw to Cumberland sausage and red onion rolls and sophisticated servings of foie gras served table side to guests.

A little pricey but delicious!!!! Again - book early.

Constantia Glen Vineyard

Perched high on the upper reaches of Constantiaberg (suburb about 20mins outside of Cape Town) in the oldest wine producing region of South Africa, lies Constantia Glen vineyard. Amazing view and delicious wines. Great for lunch. They serve cold meats and delicious cheeses with hot bread washed down with their prize winning Sauvignon Blancs - well worth a visit.

Groot Constantia Vineyard

Again, well worth a visit. Delicious wines and the lovely relaxed Simons Restaurant with amazing views onto the mountains.

Ellerman House

Once the stately home of Sir John and Lady Ellerman, shipping magnates and investors, Ellerman House sits perched on the slopes of Lions Head in the beautiful Bantry Bay. This amazing Hotel boasts the most spectacular ocean views on South Africa.

Now privately owned it has to be my very favourite Hotel in the world - the decor is electric, oh so stylish and beyond comfortable. Service is outstanding, amazing food - I can not find one single fault. Pay a visit!! Stay if you can, if not pop in for a drink.

A few more that I have heard good things about...

The 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa

Table Bay Hotel

The Bay

The Vineyard

We always rent in Cape Town. Many feel it’s not very safe but all the houses are very secure with round the clock surveillance. There are lots of agencies.  I use a lady called Penny Prideaux. Her website is poor however she is super super efficient and has some great houses on her books and if they are not on the site she will find something that suits you.

You can expect to pay around £250-£500 a day for a 4 bedroom house.

Natural Wonders

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Amazing gardens/walks! Lovely restaurant for lunch and keep an eye out for the outdoor concerts that they run throughout the summer months.

Hout Bay

Lovely beach, suggest taking a picnic...

Kalk Bay

Divine little fishing village. Cute little cafes and shops. We met this  lazy chap sunbathing while we were there.

Llandudno Beach

Amazing beach but beware the water is Freeezing!

Table Mountain

Lots of walks, some difficult, some not so difficult. If you don’t feel like climbing, you can take the cable car up and down. Beware at busy times there can be long queues!

There you go, all you have to do is book your flights - British Airways and Virgin fly daily. Try it  - it is a MUST!! Any questions please do not hesitate to ask me...

Again - Happy 2015!!

PS: Rae Feather Spring Summer 2015 launching in a few weeks. Lots of crisps cottons, featherlight cashmere and elegant silks...
